Dental Implants

An implant replaces the root of a missing tooth, and a crown goes on top of it. The price you see here is the finished tooth — scan, implant, abutment and crown together.

What the price covers

Implant prices quoted elsewhere are often for the implant alone, with the crown added later. Ours is one figure per finished tooth.

Included

  • A 3D scan (CBCT) of the jaw before anything is planned
  • The implant itself and the surgery to place it
  • The abutment — the connector between implant and crown
  • The crown on top
  • Every follow-up visit, including suture removal

Not included

  • Medication after surgery, about 180 THB
  • A bone graft or a sinus lift, if your case needs one
  • A temporary tooth during the healing months, if you want one

A dentist examines you, takes the 3D scan and plans the case before anything starts. You hear the full figure that day, and that is the figure you pay.

Does it hurt?

Surgery is done under local anaesthetic only. There is no general anaesthetic and no sedation. You are awake the whole time and can talk to the dentist.

During the surgery what you feel is pressure and sound, not pain. The sore part is later the same day, once the anaesthetic wears off, and the painkillers you are given handle that. Most people go back to work the next day.

If you are nervous about surgery or about needles, say so at the examination. The dentist will take it a step at a time and tell you what is happening as it happens.

How long it takes, and how many visits

Most cases are five visits, spread over several months.

  1. Examination, 3D scan, plan. You leave knowing the total cost and whether you need a bone graft.
  2. Surgery. Local anaesthetic. You go home the same day.
  3. Stitches out and a wound check, about two weeks later.
  4. Impression for the crown. This is the visit you wait longest for — see the table below.
  5. Fitting the crown, 10–14 days after the impression. You chew normally from then on.

No bone graft

3 months

Three months of healing after surgery, then the impression, then the crown 10–14 days later.

With a bone graft

4–6 months

The grafted bone has to be solid first. After that the sequence is the same.

Those months are spent at home living normally, not coming to the clinic. You are not here every week.

If you do not live in Thailand all year

The healing months do not have to be spent here. A common pattern for people who go home for part of the year is: examination and surgery on one trip, stitches out two weeks later, then fly home; impression and crown on the next trip, which needs about two weeks in Thailand back to back.

Tell the dentist your travel dates at the examination. The plan is built around them, rather than you being told at the end that you have to stay longer. If your dates do not allow it, the dentist will say so on the day instead of starting something you cannot finish.

If something goes wrong while you are abroad, message us on LINE or WhatsApp with a photo. We will tell you honestly whether it can wait for your next trip or whether you need to see a dentist where you are.

Choosing a brand

We work with 4 implant brands. They differ in price and in how many years of warranty the implant itself carries. No brand is treated as the default here: the dentist looks at your bone and the position of the tooth, asks what you want to spend, and lets you choose.

  • Dentium (Korea)37,000 THB per unit1-year warranty on the implant
  • Osstem39,000 THB per unit1-year warranty on the implant
  • NeoDent43,000 THB per unit2-year warranty on the implant
  • Straumann65,000 THB per unit5-year warranty on the implant

The price includes the crown on top of the implant. The warranty runs from the day the implant is placed and comes with conditions worth reading before you decide — they are in the next section.

What the warranty actually says

The clinic gives you these terms in writing, on the consent form you sign before surgery. The short version:

  • The implant itself. Replaced at no charge within the warranty period for that brand — Straumann 5 years, Neodent 2 years, Dentium / Osstem 1 year.
  • The crown and the abutment. Repaired or remade at no charge in the first year if they come loose, chip or break in normal use. Half price in years two and three.
  • Small adjustments are never charged for — tightening a loose screw, re-cementing the crown, adjusting the bite, polishing a small chip — as long as you come for a check-up every six months.
  • What it does not cover. Inflammation around the implant caused by plaque, poor cleaning, smoking or missed check-ups; accidents and biting something hard; failure linked to an uncontrolled medical condition; and a broken crown when the dentist advised a night guard and it was not worn.
  • Two conditions that void it. Missing two check-ups in a row suspends the cover until the implant has been re-assessed here, and having the work adjusted or repaired at another clinic ends it from that day.

If there is not enough bone

When a tooth has been missing for years, the bone where its root used to be slowly shrinks. It can end up too thin to hold an implant. We know that on the day you are examined, not on the day of surgery, because every case is scanned in 3D first — the scan shows both the thickness of the bone and where the nerve runs.

If the bone is short, the dentist explains the options that day: build the bone up with a graft, lift the sinus floor for an upper back tooth, or, if you would rather not do either, a different way of replacing the tooth. Prices for grafting and sinus lifts are in the list below, and they are ranges because the amount needed differs case by case.

Looking after it

An implant does not decay, but the gum and bone around it can become inflamed in the same way gum disease affects natural teeth — and that is the usual reason implants fail. Brushing, cleaning between the teeth, and a professional clean every six months are what keep it in place.

Smoking makes failure considerably more likely, particularly in the healing months. The dentist will tell you this plainly if you smoke; it is not a reason to refuse treatment, but it is a reason to know the odds before spending the money.
